First grade has had an amazing and exciting first quarter! We have learned how God keeps his promises through the stories of creation, Adam & Eve, Noah, Abraham, Isaac & Jacob in the book of Genesis. In Math we learned how to add and subtract numbers, solve word problems and use graphs to read and keep information. The students are always excited about writing and in Writer’s Workshop we have been learning how to write stories using pictures and simple words. Studying Science has taught us about plants, animals and people and their life, environment, and how to take care of them. In Social Studies, we learned about our communities and families and about how God made each one of us special. We also learned how to respect those in leadership and how to take care of and respect those in our community. One of the most exciting things we are doing in first grade is learning how to read and decode new words everyday! It’s amazing to see the progress they make each day and the excitement they have to learn new things!

Fun things this quarter also included a field trip to Blackberry Farm in Aurora where we learned about Johnny Appleseed and lots of interesting facts about apples; a research project where the kids made maps of their streets and making shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child for our mission’s project! We are looking forward to all the new and exciting things we will learn and do next quarter! |
